Wrap-Up

Well, 2023 has come to an end, and it’s been a great year for me! Working in this field constantly keeps you on your toes and humbles you and this year was no exception. In terms of professional achievements, I was able to obtain my GPEN certification this year, discover new ways in (to me) using common technologies like ADCS and ESX, and perform my first physical platform testing. Every year I think I’ll finally feel satisfied with where I’m at, but I still feel like there is so much to learn that I know relatively nothing. I have to remind myself of all I’ve learned, how far I’ve come, and that I still have plenty of years to continue working towards mastery of cybersecurity, even though I know that’s not fully obtainable.

Changes Announcement

While blogging every month has been good for me and I did learn a lot from this process, I feel as though this blog hasn’t become what I had hoped. I don’t want to stop blogging, so I’ve decided to slow it down a bit and focus on adding more substantial content or at least something “new” in every post so it doesn’t feel like such an assignment. I think this will help me to create more valuable posts that will more efficiently share learning experiences I want to share without creating a lot of “fluff” in the middle. So in 2024, I won’t necessarily be posting monthly, but will plan on posting throughout the year as I find concepts, techniques, or ideas I would like to share.

What’s Next

With the more relaxed posting schedule, it will allow me to study for and take the OSCP, which is a certificate I’ve long had my sights set on. For me, this will really help cement key skills that I get to use on the job and brush up on skills that I don’t have the opportunity to use often in the real world - like buffer overflows. My goal is to finish the OSCP in the first half of the year, but I will be focused on passing it on my first try if possible rather than rushing to take it if I feel I need more time to prepare. I’m sure some of my 2024 posts will contain thoughts and findings I’ve had while studying!

That’s all I wanted to say in this post. Thank you to everyone who has read my 2023 blog posts and I look forward to sharing more in 2024! Happy new years everyone! screenshot
